Class Schedules

The Edmonton Igbo School is currently operating online and meets every Saturday for 2 hours from 1pm to 3pm.

The School uses technology to deliver a quality curriculum on Igbo language and Culture, thus, enabling participants irrespective of their locations to benefit from the initiative. The teachers are trained to use online tools for effective teaching of Igbo language and to measure the impact of the online learning on teacher practice and participant’s achievements. All curriculum materials created are in alignment with the Universal Basic Education standards as developed by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) as well as meet Alberta Education standards.

End of Academic Year

The Igbo Language and Culture Course is a 2 Unit credit load that occurs every Saturday for 3 months per trimester.

Each contact time lasts for about 2 hours and follows a 10:40:20:40:10 structure consisting of 10 mins of class preparation, 40 mins of first instruction time, 20 mins. of lunch break, 40 mins of second instruction time and 10 mins. of cleanup and dismissal.

Each student is expected to spend additional 2 hours weekly to review, practice, complete assignments and consolidate learning. This amounts to a total of 36 hours per trimester consisting of 18 hours instruction time + 18 hours of out-of-class work. Consequently, each student is expected to cover a total of 108 hours of instruction per academic year to receive a certificate and 324 hours of instruction to receive a diploma.
